choosing a Guided Sea Kayak Tour in Baja California, Mexico

Many of the tour operators in the southern half of the Baja peninsula, in the state of Baja California Sur, Mexico base out of Loreto or La Paz; coastal communities on the Sea of Cortes side of the peninsula. Most of the tours visit uninhabited islands and coastlines near those two starting points. The speculate no multi-day tours go out of Cabo San Lucas is because there are no colse to islands to paddle to and the sea is much more exposed there.

Loreto & La Paz comparison

Loreto is a sleepy Mexican fishing settlement about 8 hours by car from Cabo San Lucas. It was the primary capital of the peninsula until 1828 when a hurricane leveled the town and the capital was constantly moved to La Paz. La Paz, a city of 250,000, is the main ferry terminus to mainland Mexico, and is located practically half way in the middle of Loreto and Cabo.

Loreto has petite flights arriving daily from Los Angeles or San Diego on Aero Mexico, Alaska and Aero California. La Paz has more options of flights in and out on those carriers and others. Loreto is a 2-day drive south from San Diego in California, Usa. Some guests elect to fly into Cabo San Lucas to take advantage of cheap flights, and take an air-conditioned bus to either Loreto or La Paz for a fraction of what it would cost in Usa.

Both Loreto and La Paz have some large uninhabited islands colse to that are exquisite for paddling and exploring. Both Loreto and La Paz are within reach of Magdalena Bay, the gray whale lagoon on the Pacific side of the peninsula. All the islands in the Sea of Cortez and all three gray whale lagoons on the Pacific Coast have Mexican national park status, and all outfitters and secret parties must have the proper permits. Be sure to go with an outfitter than has the proper operating permits, or if you are in a secret party do collect the proper permits from the national park office in both communities, as federal officers do regular site inspections in the park areas.

Private parties are not permitted at all in Magdalena Bay, although they are allowed with permits in the Sea of Cortez. Permitted outfitters are committed to preserving the laws and environment in which they control and must pay all appropriate taxes to Mexico, must hire and train locals to be sea kayak guides and logistics managers, and have proper liability guarnatee and security procedures/training.

Self-supported vs. Motorboat supported tours

Most sea kayak tour operators fall into either of these two camps, so be sure you request about what kind of tour the enterprise runs, and what they contain in the tour price. Most tour outfitters have mostly double kayaks since the majority of guests are fairly new to kayaking, but some will have singular kayaks along, too, for folks to rotate into. So this is other issue to explore.
Weather in Baja California Sur

Daytime temperatures late December through February range from the 70's to 80's (degrees F), and night temperatures can dip to the 40's, requiring a warm sweater and hat. March idea early May they range from the mid-80's to mid-90's during the day, and 55-60 at night. While rain is infrequent on the Baja peninsula, it does occur December - February. Bring artificial and cotton clothes, in layers to provide for weather extremes (your outfitter will provide an equipment list).

Water temperatures range from 68 to72 degrees F (some find a wet suit a good idea December through March for snorkeling). Spf clothing, light-colored, long-sleeved shirt and long pants & hats are rapidly gaining in popularity and are great for outdoor voyage in sunny climes. Periods of strong winds for up to 2-3 days at a time can occur in this part of the world from November through March, although they start tapering off in February and March. Hurricane season is August through November. Temperatures soar above 110 degrees F in June, July and August, thus most outfitters don't control tours then.

Whales in Baja California Sur

The rare blue whale/ largest loving vertebrate in the world today, and the fin whale frequent the Sea of Cortez February through mid April, as well as the occasional humpback. The once endangered California gray whale, whose habitancy now numbers about 28,000, migrates each fall and winter down the Pacific coast from Alaska to spend the month of February and first consolidate weeks of March in the three large lagoon/inner waterways of Baja California peninsula's Pacific coast. There they rest, give birth and mate before heading beck toward Alaska in late March.

Mexico strictly protects the California gray whale lagoons, thus one can only go into the lagoons with a licensed kayak tour operator or motorized tour operator. Tasteless dolphins/ bottle nose dolphins and California sea lions are commonly seen throughout the waters of Baja. A Tasteless myth is that one can pet a whale from a kayak - this has never been known to happen. They move much faster than a kayak can paddle, and have never shown curiosity in kayaks.

However, it is becoming more and more Tasteless for gray whales in the lagoons of the Pacific coast to advent motorized boats and even occasionally be petted by humans. The boat operators licensed by the Mexican government are quite master at knowing how to let the whales advent them, and on ways to avoid stressing the whales.

Why go with an outfitter

The seas and winds can be quite absorbing at times, and destinations remote, thus seasoned guides are an invaluable asset unless you are very experienced in self supported tours in this kind of environment -and even then, there are weather patterns unique to the Sea of Cortez. A permitted outfitter will have the knowledge; experience, sound equipment, and the commitment to security and aid that can allow you to relax and enjoy your vacation in Baja California. Also, due to the remoteness of the southern part of the Baja peninsula, the weather, and liability issues, looking expedition kayaks to rent in Loreto or La Paz is very difficult (outfitters don't want to rent out their touring boats since they need them to run their tours).

Why Sea Kayaking

It is a magical, quiet sport quickly and in fact learned; the craft are stable and seaworthy. Wildlife is less threatened by a someone quietly drifting by in a kayak than any other approach. It is a great way to spend time with new friends in a wilderness setting. Kayaks can carry more gear than backpacks so many previous hikers are turning to sea kayaking. Come see why sea kayaking is exploding in popularity, by going on a guided sea kayak tour in a beautiful setting.

Traveling to Mexico As a Full Time Rv'er

During the winter months most Full Time Rv'ers move south to warmer climates. For most this is ordinarily Florida, one of the gulf states or Arizona. Most of these Rv'ers will have looked supplementary south at Mexico but up to now have not made the jump south of the border for varied reasons.

Most of these Rv'ers will know person who has done the trip even if it is only to some place such as Puerto Penasco or San Carlos which are both on the sea of Cortes, and only a few hours south of the Us, Mexican border. But even with the facts they have received from these travelers they will have misgivings about as a matter of fact doing the trip themselves.

South Park T Shirts

Many people will cite security are their main concern about traveling in Mexico. And with the proliferation of stories that always seem to crop up whenever Mexico is mentioned, it is easy to see where there concern would come from.

First of all to put things in perspective, a new Yahoo report listed the Usa as the most dangerous western country to trip in. Mexico was not even on the list. Someone else report I once read out of Europe as a matter of fact listed the Usa in the list of most dangerous countries in the world to trip in. If you feel safe traveling in the Usa, you will be much safer traveling in Mexico. If you as a matter of fact look at it you will find that the stories are ordinarily repeated by people who are too afraid to trip to Mexico themselves, and then will account for it with rehashed stories. These same people will do roughly anyone in their power to stop you from traveling to Mexico since they cannot stand the concept of you doing something that they themselves are afraid to do.

All of my experiences of traveling in Mexico by Camper Van, Motor Home, and my cars have been good. In fact in all the years that I have done it I have never met Someone else Rv'er that has had a problem. Or even met one who knew person that had a qoute traveling in Mexico. In many cases we have been parked on free beaches in Mexico with our Rv and have left many of our possession's covering over night. Things such as tables, lawn chairs, our zodiac boat, hammocks and much more. They were always there in the morning. I would not even do that in Canada, much less the Usa.

I am currently writing this report from a cottage in the small town of La-Cruz about twenty miles north of Puerto Vallarta. We drove our Mazda Van down here from Canada for a months vacation. We did not have sufficient time to take the Rv this year. As usual the people have been treating us fantastic, and this year with the transfer rate of the Peso to the Dollar our spending power is the best that I have ever seen.

It is probably due to the so called "Recession" that not many people are traveling to Mexico this year. We saw many roughly empty Rv parks along the way. In fact the small Rv park on the property where we are staying is completely empty. The property has a million dollar view, and an Rv spot can be had for about to dollars per night.

There are a whole of good resources ready for the first time Mexico Rv traveler. One that I recommend is the book "Mexican Camping" by Mike and Terry Church. This book can be found on Amazon, and in many good book stores. Someone else good resource is the "Guia Roji" which is a Mexican map book. This book is also ready on Amazon.

There are Rv Caravan associates that you can sign up with to do an escorted trip straight through parts of Mexico. These are a bit expensive, but are a great way for a first timer to learn the ropes. You can find a whole of these associates by finding for Mexican Caravans on line.

Another way for a first timer to get comfortable with traveling in Mexico is to buddy up with an experienced traveler. If you stay in any Rv park near the Mexican border, you are sure to find people that are going south. Also once you get into the Rv parks in Mexico you will be able to find other buddies to trip with to varied locations.

So I encourage you to take the plunge and find out what the other side of the border is as a matter of fact like. Yes it is poorer than the Usa and Canada, but the Mexican people just do not seem to have realized that and you will find that in many cases they are much happier than the people you know at home. They will go out of their way to help you, and will as a matter of fact give you the shirt of their backs.

There are Rv parks everywhere, so until you get very comfortable traveling in Mexico, you can be colse to other Rv'ers every night. And then as you start to learn the ropes, you can stroll off more and more on your own. Either way you never have to go beyond your relieve level. The only hard decision will be making the decision to go to Mexico in the first place. Within a very short time you will come to understand just how easy it as a matter of fact is.

Cultural study

The world has reached a stage that issues of culture are taking the central stage in every sphere of life. Before a multi-national company establishes a field in any given part of the world, it must think the dominant culture of the habitancy living within that region. Part of the reasons why this is so is because, the culture of the habitancy can directly or indirectly work against the develop of the set goals /objectives of the company. For example, a pharmaceutical company that its sole aim is to produce contraceptives would find it difficult to perform the set goals if it is established in region or place that the dominant culture or the habitancy preaches against the use of contraceptives of any kind. On the other hand, a tourist, stranger, or diplomat who finds him/herself in foreign faces difficulties in whole of ways in relating with habitancy (stranger) or carrying out his or her assignment efficiently (in the case of a diplomat).

This has settled culture as one of the top most priorities in achieving diplomatic assignments. This is because, most (if not all) embassies or foreign missions go straight through the cultures of the respective nations where they are settled to kick off dialogue on the ground of socio-political and economic relations with the government of such countries. When habitancy come to know that their culture is understand, they feel more at home with other party and her initiatives. In this way, they offer their preserve in production sure that an initiative or scheme presented by the foreign mission. But when this is not done, there is great suspicion on the part of the indigenous peoples, particularly due to the misunderstanding nature of the polarize culture of the habitancy involved.

South Park T Shirts

Before now many peoples around the world, strive to keep the knowledge about their cultures incommunicable from the covering world. But now, nations feel to educate strangers or foreigners on their culture. For example, China and Japan in the recent do build extra cultural events for foreigner and sponsor habitancy from distinct parts of the world, to attend. Most embassies in Nigerian have carried out cultural collaborative ventures with indigenous cultural organizations help them understand as well as narrate well with habitancy in that country using culture as medium.

Apart from that, foreign cultural centres like Alliance Francaise, British Council Korean Cultural Centre and Goethe-Institut have remained strong intermediaries for cultural change as well as study in the middle of their nation and other cultures around the world. With these bodies, it is easy for an African national to speak and understand foreign languages like German, French, Korea etc, with utmost fluency.

All fifty percent of the countries in world have the reserved supply to engage in aggressive cultural study like Britain, German and the likes are doing, the world would perceive a new phase of inescapable interrelationship in the middle of its inhabitants and promote more peace on the globe. Cultural study is indeed, a scheme nations should spend in for peace, unity and development.
